Exclusive SPS Braille Cell technology addresses the biggest challenges of Braille devices: cost, reliability and functionality.

Piezoceramic actuators commonly used in today’s Braille displaysare costly and break easily making Braille expensive to manufacture and unaffordable to many blind people and organization that servbe the blind. Using innovative SPS EAP actuator technology, the SPS Braille Cell significantly improves Braille’s reliability, enhances Braile’s functionality and reduces manufacturing cost. Add to these features multi-line Braille and graphic display capability now made possible by SPS EAP Braille Cell technology.

SPS Braille Cell Technology creates the next generation Braille devices by combining three innovative technologies:

  • EAP actuators with high displacement and blocking force;
  • Compact actuator design and;
  • Low-cost scalable manufacturing process.

SPS EAP actuator design meets standard Braille cell specifications including a diameter smaller than 2 mm; tip displacement larger than 0.5 mm; and over 30 grams of force. In addition to this, the SPS EAP actuator pin can be activated in under 50 milliseconds for fast refreshing.
